Pakistan's federal cabinet has undergone major changes on Monday, and several federal ministers, including Makhdoom Khusro Bakhtiar and Hamad Azhar, have been changed.
Federal Minister for Food Security Khusro Bakhtiar has withdrawn his letter from Syed Fakhr Imam.
Hamad Azhar, who was the Federal Minister for Economic Affairs till now, has been given the Ministry of Industry and Production, while Hamad Azhar's economic affairs secretary has now been given to Khusro Bakhtiar.
Hashim Popplezai, secretary of the Ministry of National Food Security, has also been removed from his post and Umar Hameed has been appointed secretary.
The prime minister's adviser for industry and commerce, Abdul Razzaq Dawood, who is also chairman of the Sugar Advisory Board, has been removed from his two terms.
This progress comes at a time when the federal government is facing severe criticism over the report of the Investigation Committee on the flour and sugar crisis in December 2019 and January 2020.
The report of Pakistan's Federal Investigation Agency came to light on Saturday, citing the recent Chinese-born Chinese crisis in the country, saying that among those who took advantage of the crisis were political leaders other than the PTI. Party leaders are also included.
It is to be remembered that in the month of February, Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan had directed the FIA to submit a report after conducting a thorough inquiry into the sugar and flour crisis in the country.
The FIA has prepared these reports after investigation from all relevant federal and provincial agencies.
The six-member inquiry commission, headed by FIA head Wajid Zia, has revealed that government figures have sought to get the maximum benefit despite receiving government subsidies.
Representatives from the Intelligence Bureau, the SECP, the State Bank, the Directorate General and the FBR were also included in the commission.
The report said that PTI chief Jahangir Tareen and a close relative of federal minister Khusro Bakhtiar said they took advantage of the crisis for their personal benefit.
Leader of the ruling coalition Muslim League-Q, Monse Elahi, has also been included in the list of beneficiaries of the Chinese crisis.
The report said that because of the influence of political figures and their role in decision-making, they received more subsidies in less time and ensured maximum profit in a short time.
Other changes to the cabinet
Federal Minister for Muttahida Qaumi Movement Pakistan Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui accepted the resignation from the Ministry of Telecom and replaced him with his party's Amin-ul-Haq.
In addition, Federal Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Azam Khan Swati has been appointed Federal Minister for Counter-Narcotics, while Babar Awan has been posted as Advisor to Parliamentary Affairs.
Similarly, the Prime Minister's Adviser for Establishment, Shahzad Arbab, has been removed from his post.
