Hearing on release of prisoners in Supreme Court: 'Nothing but urge to wash hands'





Pakistan's Chief Justice Gulzar Ahmed has said that nothing can be done to prevent corona virus in the country except to force people to wash their hands for only 20 seconds on TV.
He said this during a hearing on Monday against a decision by the country's high courts to release under-trial prisoners in view of the possible spread of the Corona virus.
The five-member bench of the Supreme Court, headed by the Chief Justice, is hearing these petitions.
The court, while expressing dissatisfaction over the report submitted by the four provinces, including the federal, on the steps taken to combat the Corona virus, said that all the government measures were in the paper only and practically nothing.
The Chief Justice said that it is an emergency in the country that the OPDs of the government hospitals have been closed and the patients with diabetes and diabetes have been left helpless.
The Chief Justice gave remarks saying that he had to open a huge hospital for his wife's medical examination.
He said that the letter was written by the Health Ministry that the dispensary in the Supreme Court should be closed. The Chief Justice addressed the Attorney General and asked, "Is this the way it is being dealt with?"
The Chief Justice said that the federal government was doing nothing in this matter and the report submitted by the government is clear evidence.
Attorney General Khalid Mahmood told the court that a report was also submitted on Monday, describing the steps being taken to tackle the epidemic.
He said that if the court deems it appropriate, he is ready to give briefing in the chamber to which the Chief Justice remarks, saying that what is happening on the ground is giving the impression that nothing is happening. Happening.
Addressing the Attorney General, the Chief Justice said that the court is aware of what briefings he will give these cameras.

It should be noted that a report was submitted by the federal government to the Supreme Court a few days ago, raising concerns that the number of Corona patients in Pakistan could reach more than 20,000 by the end of April.
The Chief Justice said that by now 10 hospitals with thousands of beds should have become operational. He said there were ten people living in one of the rooms at the quarantine centers.
He said that billions of rupees have been allocated to control the corona virus, but where this money is being spent is not known.
The Chief Justice said that the governments of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Sindh were only asking for money but were not working.
The chief justice added that the chief ministers of all the four provinces were issuing orders to control the outbreak. During the hearing, the Chief Justice said that Dr. Zafar Mirza's projection is being made on TV on a daily basis.
During the hearing, the court inquired whether there was any evidence from the Ministry of Defence, to which the Attorney General stated that the court had not summoned any of the defence Ministry.
Justice Omar Ata Bandial, on the bench, asked the Attorney General whether the action should be taken by the National Disaster Management Authority, on which the Attorney General said that the responsibility of the NDMA was to acquire and distribute the goods, To which the Chief Justice addressed the Attorney General, saying, "You are making people accustomed to taking money."
He said that people have been getting unpaid salaries and other incentives for the last 15 years in Pakistan Steel Mills while the shipyard is not making even one boat but taking all salaries.
He said that a small boat is also needed if China receives help.
The Chief Justice remarked that no man was working and everyone talked about getting funds. He said that provincial governments were talking about money sharing and rationing.
The Chief Justice said that all the emphasis is on distributing free rations because the businesses of the people have already been closed.
He said provinces are saying give billions of rupees because they have to buy gloves and masks.
The Chief Justice said that members of Pakistan are afraid to sit in the Assembly Parliament, while on the contrary, Europe and the United States have also made rules and started implementing them to cope with the outbreak.
He said that provincial governments do not have the kits available for the corona test of the people.
Justice Qazi Amin, who was present at the bench, gave remarks saying that if the government believes that basic rights are not important then this thinking is wrong. He said the provision and protection of basic rights should be included in the government's priorities.

On this, the Superintendent of Adiala Jail Rawalpindi told the court that no order was issued by the Islamabad High Court regarding the release of the prisoners.
According to Deputy Commissioner Islamabad Hamza Shafqat, about 300 prisoners have been released so far on the orders of Islamabad High Court.
The hearing for this petition was postponed to 7 April i.e. tomorrow.
