Doctors in the northern
Indian state of Punjab have re-linked the severed hand of a policeman after a
successful operation. Police officer Harjit Singh's hand was attacked and
cut off by a man while he was banning him from violating the lockdown imposed
by the Corona virus.
The incident took place on
Monday with the police officer in Patiala city of Punjab when he was preventing
people who violated lockdown.
After the incident, the
police have arrested some persons belonging to the Sikh community,
Nahng. Complete lockdown is implemented in all states of India till the
15th of April to prevent the outbreak of the Corona virus.
Doctors say the operation
to attach a severed hand to the body was extremely difficult and complicated,
which was successfully completed and police officer Harjit Singh is recovering.
Punjab Chief Minister
Amarinder Singh has congratulated the team of doctors who conducted the
operation of police officer Harjit Singh.
According to local media,
the attackers fled the scene and hid in a gurudwara in a nearby village.
When the police reached the
gurdwara to arrest the accused, they opened fire on the police. The police
called for more personnel, after which they left the gurdwara and handed
themselves over to the police.
According to Indian law
against the accused, a case has been registered under three different
provisions including action murder and assault on a government official.
Various Sikh communities,
including the Nahng community, have strongly condemned the attack on the police
officer.
It is the responsibility of
the police personnel to ensure the lockdown is implemented in all the states of
India. Police have also been attacked in several other states because of
the lockdown preventing people from leaving their homes.
But the incident in Punjab
was extremely serious and video of the incident became common on social media,
in which Harjit Singh could be seen requesting help from his colleagues after
he was injured.
