Explosive DGISPR & DGISI Presser Hints Elements Behind Arshad Sharif Murder – Demolishes Imran Khan’s Narrative

Never before has DGISPR (Director General Inter-Services Public Relations) and DGISI (Director General Inter-Services Intelligence) held a joint press conference, let alone with revelations that are not only explosive but will change the overall standing of the country's politics, strategic political alliances, and political agenda in the future.

On a day when the world mourns the death of slain senior Pakistani journalist Arshad Sharif, who was brutally killed in a shootout in Kenya, allegedly due to mistaken identity (according to Kenyan police authorities), an explosive joint press conference by DGISPR Major General Babar Iftikhar and DGISI Lieutenant General Nadeem Ahmed Anjum has sent shockwaves to former Prime Minister Imran Khan, his narrative of a conspiracy that lead to regime change in the country by ousting his government off power, and raises serious questions over Imran Khan, a leading news channel’s owner Salman Iqbal and other elements that led to the killing of the journalist and anchor Arshad Sharif.

Slain Journalist Arshad Sharif Murder:

The media talk focused on the tragic death of journalist Arshad Sharif in Kenya and the circumstances surrounding it.

"This press conference is being held in the context of presenting facts in order to distinguish between facts, fiction, and opinion." "Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has been specifically informed about the press conference's sensitivity," said DGISPR.

More specifically, the DGISPR stated that Arshad Sharif was among many journalists who were fed a propaganda-based narrative built by Imran Khan in the aftermath of the cypher, which allegedly led to the regime change conspiracy in the country.

The DGISPR also stated that Arshad Sharif's employer, the prominent news channel ARY News, acted as a spin doctor in targeting the army, and that its CEO, Salman Iqbal, should be returned to Pakistan and investigated.

The threat letter and alert issued by the Khyber Pukhtunkhwa (KP) government were also revealed to be fake, as the DGISPR confirmed that the intelligence agencies had no information of any such threat to Arshad Sharif.

"ARY CEO Salman Iqbal then requested that Arshad Sharif leave Pakistan immediately, and he was given the KP government's protocol to fly from the Peshawar airport." "ARY digital also booked and paid for his plane ticket," DGISPR added.

No one forced Arshad Sharif to leave Pakistan or even Dubai, according to the DGISPR and DGISI, because Sharif faced no threat in Pakistan.

The statements from DGISPR and DGISI can be seen parallel to the recent claim by Imran Khan that he was the one who asked Arshad Sharif to leave Pakistan after he was informed of imminent threats by TTP (Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan) splinter groups, who, as per the threat letter wanted to assassinate him.

It is also worth noting that while Arshad Sharif was in Kenya from September to November, he was in contact with or stayed with two people: Khurram Ahmed and Waqar Ahmed.

According to reports, Khurram Ahmed was driving the vehicle, which was sprayed with bullets by Kenyan police, two of which struck Arshad in the head and the back. The driver, on the other hand, was unharmed. Khurram's first phone call after Sharif was shot and killed by Kenyan police was to ARY CEO Salman Iqbal, not to his family or any other journalist.

DGISPR and DGISI emphasized that a thorough investigation should be launched and conducted into the matter and even if a UN body, or an international independent body is to be involved in it… then it should be done on priority.

ALSO READ: Pakistan To Probe Killing Of Journalist In Kenya

The farm house that Sharif was going to in Kenya was also owned by Salman Iqbal, raising even more questions about the contacts and connections related to Arshad Sharif's death.

DGISI & DGISPR Demolish Imran Khan’s Narrative:

Simply denying former Prime Minister Imran Khan's claims and narrative that his government was deposed through a conspiracy revealed through the cypher and implemented by his opposition political parties and the military establishment in what he calls a regime change, DGISPR stated that the reality of the cypher and the 27 March narrative built through it were "far from reality" and poles apart.

The intelligence agencies and the military, according to DGISPR, had already made it abundantly clear that there was no proof of a conspiracy in the cypher, a fact that was clearly conveyed to the government during the National Security Council (NSC) meeting. However, he added, in the name of regime change, a different narrative was constructed, and its propaganda tools became journalists and social media influencers.

According to DGISI, he was compelled and forced to attend a joint press conference because "lies continued to be spread and kept repeating themselves, which were being accepted by the majority of the country's youth." "I also came today because staying silent for too long is not an option when lies are becoming more vocal."

ALSO READ: Pakistan Journalist Shot Dead In Kenya, Says Wife

"In addition, it is necessary to determine the factors that are causing a particular narrative to be built and people to be misled," he said.

"General Qamar Jawed Bajwa, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), was also targeted and criticised." "An attempt was also made to create a schism in society," he added.

Concerning Imran Khan's use of a piece of paper during a public rally in Islamabad on March 27, the DGISPR stated that "it was surprising for us when on March 27 a piece of paper was waved and an attempt was made to build a narrative that was far from reality."

"Several facts about the cypher had come to light, revealing the baseless and unfounded narrative surrounding it," he said.

"The army was expected to get involved in domestic politics." The terms neutral and apolitical were vilified. To all of this nonsense, the army chief and the institution showed restraint, and we did our best to get politicians to sit down and talk about their problems," he added.

Lt Gen Anjum stated that the nation had charged him with carrying secrets to the grave. "However, when necessary, I will bring those facts to light."

"Last year, the establishment decided to limit itself to its constitutional role [...] The army had a heated debate, and we came to the conclusion that the country would benefit from us sticking to our constitutional role and staying out of politics."

He stated that "a lot of pressure" was applied in March, but the institution and the army chief decided to limit the military to its constitutional role.

The DGISI also chastised Imran Khan for openly targeting the military establishment during the day while meeting the same institutions at night with a wish list of things he wanted done to bring him back to power.

"You (Imran Khan) meet quietly at night through the back door and express your unconstitutional wishes, but in broad daylight you call the army chief a traitor." "There is a significant disparity between your words and your actions," said DGISI.

DG ISI also revealed that during March, when the no-confidence motion was at its peak and the opposition parties were banding together to depose Imran Khan's government, Imran Khan offered COAS Bajwa an unlimited extension in office.

"The offer was made at the height of the no-confidence motion," he explained.

The unprecedented and explosive press conference has opened a Pandora's box that could deal a major blow to Imran Khan's upcoming long march, his narrative of regime change, and his anti-establishment stance.

Furthermore, the press conference directly implicated Imran Khan and his KP government in the murder of journalist Arshad Sharif, which is a massive massive damage to Imran Khan and will have an impact on his public support for the long march in general.
